What's New in Passwordsafe 3.01: Version History of Passwordsafe 3.01 This release is a major upgrade, both in terms of user-visible features and \"under the hood\". Thanks to the brave folks who tried out the Beta versions and gave valuable inputs, thanks again to the gang on the passwordsafe-devel list for help in hammering out the new file format, and special thanks to DK for implementing the new features!
Among the user-visible features:
- Creation time of new entries is now recorded
- [726518] User can configure an expiration date for entries and be notified accordingly.
- [726508] Modification and access times now optionally recorded.
- [737878] It\'s now possible to copy Notes to Clipboard
- [1162051] Toolbar additions (Autotype, Browse URL, Copy Notes to clipboard)
- [1465395] Password can now be (optionally) viewed in Nested Tree Mode
- Ability to clear \"Recent Database List\"
- Browse to URL now starts a new instance of the user\'s default browser rather than taking over an existing instance
Internally, the password file format has been redesigned to provide better security. Specific issues raised in reviews have been addressed, and the underlying cryptographic algorithms have been updated (from Blowfish and SHA-1 to Twofish and SHA-256).
The following bugs have been fixed since the second Beta release:
- [1482002] Generated password no longer trashed if > 127 bytes
- [1495670] Find now searches new URL and Autotype fields
- [1495556] Restore after minimize now works when system-tray not used.
- [1472332] Read-only command line argument bug
- Help file now reflects 3.0 new features.
- [1490985, 1423020, 1398936] Microsoft redistributable dlls now included in installation and zip file. Should fix all \"MS*.dll not installed\" problems
- [1440951] Can now close application after minimize w/o system tray.
About: Password Safe is a free open-source program for storing passwords in the Windows operating system. After filling in the master password the user has access to all account data entered and saved previously. The data can be organized by categories, can be sorted and searched. The key combination Ctrl+C copies the password of a selected account into the clipboard, Ctrl+U copies user ID. The program can be set to minimize automatically after a period of idle time and clears the clipboard. It is possible to compare and synchronize two different password databases.
PasswordSafe Features
- KeePass supports the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and the Twofish algorithms to encrypt its password databases.
- your passwords are encrypted while KeePass is running, so even if Windows caches the KeePass process to disk, this wouldn't reveal your passwords anyway.
- One master password decrypts the complete database.
- KeePass runs, without downloading any additional libraries, on Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT, 2000, XP (Home & Pro, 32-bit & 64-bit), 2003 and Vista.
- The password list can be exported to various formats like TXT, HTML, XML and CSV.
- KeePass supports time fields: creation time, last modification time, last access time and expiration time.
