Version History of MSN Messenger 4.5

New features available in this version include:

  • Arrange your contacts into groups: Define your own groups for family members, friends or the players from the soccer team.
  • Emoticon drop-down list: You don't have to remember the keystroke—just click the emoticon you would like to send to a friend.
  • Make worldwide phone calls Call anywhere in the world for a very low rate. You decide which phone service provider you want to use! Choose from a list of providers the one that works best for you.
  • Microsoft .NET Alerts: Get Microsoft .NET Alerts as the ultimate way to stay in touch! You can choose to receive important information like Stock Alerts in your Windows Messenger, on your mobile device, and in your e-mail inbox.

The major use of MSN Messenger is for instant messaging, although other features which now come as standard include support for voice conversations, webcams (MSN Messenger 7.0 and later feature full screen audio video conversations), transferring files, and built-in multi-user online games such as Tic Tac Toe. In a similar vein to many of MSN Messenger's competitors, MSN Messenger allows messages to be enlivened with graphical emoticons, sometimes called smileys, Flash animations called winks, animated display pictures, styled text, and many more with third-party add-ons.
